Looking down on the Tarn River

Had a touring day today to drive the Gorges du Tarn. Had heard about them and probably wouldn’t have taken the motorhome through, so a good opportunity. The day started out quite fresh and a bit overcast but the sun soon came out and it was a Wow trip all the way.

Took a couple of wrong turns on the way out which left the lad negotiating some narrow streets but we eventually hit the main road. The road follows the Tarn River which has towering cliffs alongside it which have eroded over many millions of years forming some extremely interesting landscapes. The leaves are turning yellow and with the morning light the views were just beautiful.

Some of the little towns we passed through date back to the middle ages. In many places tunnels have been cut out of the hills for the road, leaving them pretty narrow, but thankfully being end of season and mid week, there were very few vehicles on the road making for a most pleasant drive. It was just quite different scenery than we have seen before.

Finally stopped in the town of Sainte-Enimie, and had a wander around before stopping at a café for lunch. It was so nice sitting outside people watching. It is end of season and there seemed to be a number of shops and restaurants closed, evidently during the summer season this area is just so busy, there are campgrounds and kayak hire places all the way along the road. I had a really good duck breast for lunch, and Ian opted for a French style pork rib. After a really good coffee it was back on the road again for the return trip.

Got home and it was very cloudy. I wandered up town get some fresh bread, and after our big lunch, another night of just a graze, getting quite used to this!!!

Lots of photos of the today's drive through
such impressive scenery.

Love these sort of shops.
