Saturday May 6 – Heinsburg, Germany

Neatly plowed fields ready for spring planting.

Finally a really warm sunny day and into shorts and jandals for the first time. To have breakfast with the sun pouring in started the day off really well.  It was only an hour’s drive today to Heinsburg where we found what looked to be a good Stellplatz on a lake and very handy to town. It was a really pretty drive with the sun shining, through a very rural landscape as we passed from Netherlands into Germany.
Jilly had a few blond moments as she decided to take a slightly shorter route into town, which took us through a number of small older villages with very narrow roads – welcome back to Germany! But on a positive side went straight to the Rewe Supermarket which had a very large carpark so able to have a good shop up. Germany’s prices are certainly cheaper than Netherlands and a whole lot cheaper than UK. Bought some nice salami and cheese.
Then set Jilly for the campspot just on the outskirts of town and she managed to take us down a very narrow street on the lake front – that had a barrier at a dead end. We could see the camp site but no way in except to turn around – a very tight manoeuvre. Went round the block and the correct road in was very simple and straight forward, sometimes I can’t work out how a GPS thinks. But the end result was a really great spot with excellent facilities, and facing out to the lake.
After a late lunch we went for a walk into town to the ATM machine, a bit longer than we expected….30 minutes each way, and with the temperatures in the early 20’s we were pleased to get back for a drink.
A great social evening with Chris and Peter
Ended up having a wonderful afternoon as we got talking to our “neighbours”, Chris and Peter from Belgian. They have travelled a lot and have been to NZ 3 times to visit rellies. We sat in the sun, relaxing over a few beers and picked up some really handy tips about traveling in France. Also discovered that their GPS had sent them down the same dead end lane to the camp that we went down.
Golden fields
View from campspot
Loved this entrance with it's metal "schoolbag" mailbox.
Espaliered trees in gardens are very common
Perfect "hunters' car.
Rather nice sunset across the lake.
