Wednesday October 19 Konigschaffhausen (Quite a name and really don’t know how to pronounce it).

The delightful market square in Gengenbach - the stalls were just packing up when we got there.
More rain overnight but today has been fine. A leisurely start this morning, the bodies still recovering from yesterday’s big walk.

Needed some groceries but Edeka’s carpark in the nearby town of Offenberg was full and nowhere for Ruakiwi to fit in, so continued onto Gengenbach, a town that Sybille and Martin had recommended. Found an Aldi store on the outskirts and stocked up on supplies. Then drove into the old town but there was no hope of parking anywhere, so returned to a Stellplatz on the edge of town and parked there, and the walk back into town didn’t take too long….and it was all flat!
The entrance to the old town was through a narrow archway with a gate that could be dropped…obviously a defence in previous centuries!! The historic buildings surrounding the town square were of a different style and very intricate, just so spectacular especially with flowers cascading out of window boxes. So hard to describe, but we both were in awe. Wandered around the streets and collected some goodies from the bakery and wandered back to Ruakiwi for a very late lunch.
Yesterday when we spoke to the manager at the castle he told us about a great place to stay at Konigschaffhausen so that was our destination this afternoon. The drive up and over the Black Forest to Lahr was just so picturesque with the autumn colours really becoming quite vivid. Having lots of issues with Vodafone trying to get more data loaded onto my phone. Knew today that we were just about out of the little amount we had so when we spotted a Mobile Phone shop we stopped and I went in. It was actually a business shop, but he was very helpful and explained how to use the voucher I had when it ran out. All sounded quite clear ..until tonight when it ran out and I couldn’t reload it. Will be another trip to a store tomorrow to get help! When all the instructions are in German it just makes it really difficult, so this is I why I am having lots of issues getting blogs loaded.

Gengenbach

No way Ruakiwi could have got through this entrance to town!

Autumn is being celebrated everywhere.

Wonderful decorations on the buildings

Castles on hills - everywhere

Acres of cars....not sure why???

Evening from the camp....the weather is not looking good.
