Morning walk in the historic town of Walldurn

Very cold this morning, so with extra jackets we went for a walk around the old town of Walldurn, just really enjoy the buildings, the people popping into their bakery for their daily bread and the church, or the basilica as it was today, that is central to their lives. Chatted to the teachers who were singing to their group of pre-schoolers, all wrapped up in their jackets and gloves and watching a kite flying. No photos as so aware of not exploiting children!
Back on the road late morning, and decided to trust “Jilly” the navigator. Set her to not take motorways and gave her the end destination. We ended up travelling the back roads through lots of small villages and winding through the forests with Ian having to deal with the narrow roads! He did well. Found a small pull off beside a river for a lunch stop and watched the barges coming through the lock.
Seems like the white grapes have all been picked but have seen lots of red grapes hanging on the vines and trailer loads passing by going to the wineries. So love the patchwork look to the countryside, with mown fields, cropped fields, and rows of vines with blocks in different directions. Very hard to capture as we whizz by, but there are so few places to stop on these roads.
This afternoon I set the GPS for a Stellplatz at the town of Bad Herrenalb, and arrived at 4pm and had to squeeze in beside a number of other motorhomes. There were only 4 connections to electricity available and they were all taken, so a “dry” night. We had to pay our 8 Euro for the night at the office at the Hot Pools which is why I think most people come here…they reminded me of the Polynesian pool in Rotorua, but without the sulphur smell. Put our receipt in the window then off for a walk into town. Seems to be a real destination place because of the spa with numerous hotels. Thought it was a good afternoon to stop for a drink and called into a nearby bar. Very pleasant and ended up having a few wines and pizza for dinner. The barman also brought us a cherry schnapps to have with our desert along with a good shot of coffee.   This is Bavaria and we have to do as the locals I guess!
Wandered very happily back to our overnight spot…life in Bavaria is great!
A rather intriguing sculpture

Surprised to see this hat shop in town.

Walldurn catherdral doors

These vines growing on the hillside must be centuries old

The countryside is dotted with little towns
