Wednesday September 10
September 10 Wednesday, Neptunes Campground, Peggy’s Cove, NS
We were once again lucky with the overnight rain clearing by mid morning into a very clear warm day. Took the coastal route into Halifax and after a coffee at Tim Hortons, found the Ford agency in Dartmouth where Ian wanted to book in a service for Ruakiwi, and check out a few things. The first available booking was next Tuesday, so decided to take it, as we will be able to go around lower Nova Scotia and return to Halifax. I also got onto Air New Zealand and have changed our departure date from Los Angeles from Sep 29 to October 17, arriving in Auckland on the morning of the 19th. It will give us time to enjoy our trip back to Indiana without rushing too much, then make a stop over in Atlanta to visit Ian and Sue.
With all that settled we bypassed Halifax city as will check it out on our return, and with the weather so good we took the coastal route south and headed for Peggy’s cove. Every calendar seems to have a photo of this idyillic place, and half expected to be disappointed, but it was so picturesque. Just a tiny little cove with fishing boats sheds and cottages around a little inlet. The most amazing thing was the granite rock formations around the cove and surrounding areas….quite a lunar type landscape with very little vegetation trying to survive in what is quite an exposed area.
Wandered around for ages exploring the little wharves, also the coastal side. About 2 miles south we found a wonderful campsite right on the coast with another little fishing port…and a light house.
We are noticing the weather changing, Autumn is on its way, with much cooler evenings, although the days are still very warm. And starting to see a bit more colour in the trees….can’t wait.
