Thursday September 11
September 11 Thursday, Hunt’s Point, NS
Spoilt again with a fantastic day, hot and sunny and there wasn’t a breath of wind all morning. The camp has been in this family for many years and Kay, the 85 year old owner is just a bundle of joy. Now she just registers the campers and shows them to their sites and her daughter and husband come and do the cleaning and heavy work. She is so sprightly and cheery, so popped in before we left with a postcard from New Zealand and I had the opportunity for a photo.
Headed south on the coastal route and the reflections in the little inlets and coves of St Margarets Bay were stunning. Stopped at a number of little antique shops and managed a coffee along the way. Decided to hop back onto the freeway and to get to our next stop of Mahone Bay, which had been recommended. This area is popular with locals as well as Americans for holiday homes, and is quite an affluent town. Parking was at a premium, but managed a spot near the wharf, so while I did my emails ( found another little wifi area!), Ian wandered down and had a long conversation with a chap running a charter boat around the bay. The town is orientated towards the tourists with lots of shops, but not of the “tacky” variety, so had a great time browsing. Loved a food shop that had just put out its autumn display of pumpkins….guess we will be seeing a lot of these over the next month.
Sat in Ruakiwi and had a late lunch, then back on the freeway and down to the next recommended spot at Lunenburg…. But that wasn’t so successful….it is a very old harbour town that has great architecture, but the roads are soooooo narrow, and got ourselves into quite a tight space, but managed to get out of it. Wandered around the town, but felt it just too touristy although the houses were quite special. Ian was very relieved to get back on the road and we headed about 50kms south to a camping ground we had seen listed. Most surprised to find it in the open overlooking the coast, and were able to wander down around the old wharf area then along a very white sandy beach.
A low temp tonight of 5 degrees, but not complaining with such beautiful days.

Was that a tree or a creeper in front of that purple/mauve house? The colours match the house perfectly!
The flowers were petunias in a basket...I am sure they were colour co-ordinated!
