Saturday September 6
September 6 Saturday, Arm of Gold Campground, New Sydney, NS
We sat around the campsite last night watching the sun set…such a great way to finish a perfect day.
The wind got up a bit overnight, quite blustery all day, just the edge of Hurricane Hannah that we hear is coming through tonight or tomorrow, but still very warm and sunny.
On the road by 8.30 and after yesterdays scenery, today certainly didn’t quite match up, but still a good drive to finish the Cabot Trail Loop.
It was about one o’clock when we got to North Sydney, and hearing that this area would be partially affected by Hurrican Hanna, had found what looked to be a very good camp in the guide book. Turned out to be brilliant, especially as they had an area where we could wash Ruakiwi, all set up with high pressure hoses and shampoo and wax.
Had some lunch, then popped into town to pick up supplies before we started on her. She really was looking decidedly unloved, but surprised at how easily she cleaned up with the shampoo gun.
There were a lot of tiny little black flies last night, and we were told that you don’t feel them biting, but it is later on that they start itching, and sure enough they had attacked my feet and head. My right food and ankle has ballooned up, and have quite a number of spots on my scalp. So took some antihistamine to try and get some relief and help with the swelling.
The weather doesn’t seem too bad at the moment….wonder if we will see the effects of the storm.
