Tuesday September 23
September 23 Tuesday, Seven Maples Campground, Hancock NH
We woke this morning to a very heavy frost, did it hard getting up until we had the heater humming, but the day was a stunner….clear blue skies and sunny. The hills glowed with colour as we headed south through central New Hamsphire. All in all it has been a leisurely day travelling on a scenic highway that took us through many small country towns and lots of forested land, and often following rivers and passing by lakes. There has hardly been any cleared farming land, and just the occasional dairy farm with barns housing the animals.
First stop was Bristol to stretch our legs and found a good café for a morning coffee. Coontoncook was our next stop where we spotted a little antique shop beside a covered bridge. Nothing special in the way of antiques but chatted with the owners who had been to New Zealand, and they were very helpful with ideas of good places to visit.
We detoured down a little road to a lake near Hopkinton were for a lunch stop and I wandered around with my camera. Ian chatted with an older chap at the boat ramp after a fishing morning, he had caught a “crappie”, which he declared to be a very fine specimen and good eating!!! Similar shape to a snapper, but would barely qualify as a keeper!
Arrived at the campground a little earlier today, and spent a bit of time polishing Ruakiwi, before heading off on a walk along an old railway line.
