Friday September 26

September 26 Friday, Iriquois Campground, Rutland, VT

The tyre was well down this morning, and when Ian used the compressor to pump it up we could hear the air coming out of the stem. We had met the couple next door, Ray and Susan from New Hampshire and Ray offered to run Ian to town to see about getting a truck out to fix it. Found a tire garage in Middlebury, 15 minutes away who couldn’t get out until tomorrow, but suggested pumping up the tyre and being a dual drive into the garage. They were able to get it done straight away, and found that it was a broken valve stem. Also found the brake pads need replacing, and as they couldn’t do it until Monday, we have booked in for 8am. Will spend the weekend mooching around the area, and as the forecast is wet for the next 2 days it won’t hold us up from sightseeing.
Went out to lunch in Middlebury and had a very nice clam chowder. Decided to head into Rutland, which turned out to be quite a wet drive. Stopped at a little country store that Susan had recommended, which included pottery, woollen goods, cooking and produce. Such a huge range of wools, available, probably more people knit in this area as the winters are so cold….and long.
Stopped in Rutland for supplies and out to the campground, an early finish to the day.
