Sunday Spetember 21
September 21 Sunday, Poland Spring Campground, Poland, ME
A very overcast day although no rain. Left the campground and noticed a distinctive bump, bump…with trepidation checked out the tyres, only to find a large rock stuck between the back dual wheels. Heaved a sigh of relief and Ian got to with the wheel brace and finally managed to dislodge it.
The forests of this area just seem to go on forever, hills covered in trees that are really taking on the colour of a patchwork quilt. This is a moose area, and we passed many places where the moose had been….the swampy areas have been turned into mud, but no luck in sighting any.
On our last trip we had spent time with some chaps who were rebuilding a covered bridge using the old methods of mortise and tenon and wooden pegs, so were very pleased to find the bridge back in place, although it is now used only for pedestrians.
We came into the town of Bethel, a ski town, which had a huge outdoors store, L L Cote, that stocked everything from fishing and hunting supplies to outdoor clothing, motor bikes and skidoos….anything a mountain man may want! A great place to browse around. I managed to find a number of spots for photos shoots as well!
Stopped at the Grafton Notch State Park for lunch and a walk into the waterfall area. Spotted a Molly dog duplicate there.
The further south we came, the trees were less colourful, and we passed through quite a few towns with interesting names such as Paris, Norway and Poland…missed Peru, Sweden and Denmark, makes you wonder as to why they were so named!
Tonight we are camped among trees near a lake, sorry not to be a bit close though.
