Tuesday July 19, Near Funäsdalen, on the Ljusnan River

Got to love the kiwi ingenuity to make
the barbecue sit level!

It’s been quite a “touring” day as we head west to Norway, and have thoroughly enjoyed the changing scenery, especially seeing some higher hills, Sweden tends to be quite flat. Much of today’s trip has been through forested land with very little agriculture, but lots of really nice lakes and rivers.

This mornings first stop was in Sveg, a bustling town on the crossroads with motorhomes and caravans everywhere. It had a really good vibe to it, visited the ICA supermarket which was humming, and can well understand as it had really good fresh produce and a yummy bakery!!! Supermarkets do not carry any pharmaceutical products and needed to find some stronger mosquito repellent than I still had in the van from previous travels, hoped to get something with quite a bit of Deet, but that is only available with a prescription. The girl was great and recommended a product that she uses as mosquitoes love her too. Used it this afternoon and seems to work really well.  Also interesting is that in Scandinavia, you can’t buy alcohol from the supermarket, the only place you can buy it is from a Government owned chain of stores.

Stopped beside a nice lake for lunch, and by mid afternoon we were ready to have a relaxing afternoon and Park4Night had a good place, near the road but right beside the rapids on a river. Perfect. Went for a really nice 1km hike to a waterfall from the camp which was so picturesque. And tomorrow we will be in Norway.

After talking about the wild blueberries on yesterdays blog, had a great email from Cliff and Bonnie, friends we met in France in 2017 who were then living in Papamoa, NZ.  Cliff has great memories of his grandmother in Nova Scotia making the best wild blueberry pies and he agrees, the flavour is far superior to the cultivated variety we get now. I collected more this morning and also saw a few on the walk to the waterfall, but not enough to get excited about.

Picked a few lupins this morning.

Sveg's claim to fame is its "bear"???

Driving through some newly harvested forest,
there are so many large rocks, and also can't work
out why they leave a few trees standing!

View from my bedroom tonight.

Lunch stop

Nice light coming through the trees
on the waterfall walk.

The falls.

More great photos. I'm enjoying being the armchair traveller with you. Is Park4night an App for Europe?
