Saturday July 23, Lake Sysenvatnet, HW7

Driving at 1200 metres, with snow poles lining the
road. The weather was threatening.

Today has been a travelling day with only a short stop in Leira for supplies after winding down a very steep road with lots of hairpins. Then we joined the E 7 West, and what a busy road. So many motorhomes and caravans, quite a challenging drive, although the scenery was superb, so typical of Norway. Following rivers with the mountains high above.

The weather looked a bit threatening and early afternoon we had periods of rain as we started quite a climb that took us to 1200 metres, and a very mountainous landscape with big areas of snow still filling crevices. And for miles, the road was lined with long birch poles which we presume are for defining the road when it snows. We had found what looked to be quite a good spot for the night which was well off the road, and by the time we pulled in at 4 o’clock the cloud had come down and we had no idea what was around us. We joined quite a bunch of other motorhomes, and put our feet up with our books. By 5.30 the cloud lifted and we found we had a great view looking down into the valley and there is a huge lake and dam beside us. Shoes on and we went for a great walk right along the dam, enjoyed a bit of exercise after quite a bit of driving today.

One from last night that I took after the blog.

Small ski villages up in the mountains.

Spot Ruakiwi!
