Thursday October 24, North Camp, Bryce Canyon, UT
I woke
early this morning, feeling like a kid, just waiting for enough light so that I
could head off for a morning photo shoot. Camping in amongst such amazing
scenery is so special and knew that I could have a lot of fun taking early
morning photos just walking along the riverside trail.
Set off at
7.30 with camera and tripod…and just got so immersed, it was two hours later
before I got home again, as the light changed, so did the mountains, and around
every bend in the trail there was another wonderful view….a photographers
perfect morning!!!!
Waiting at Mt Carmel tunnel entrance. |
We headed
off through Route 9 and the scenery just kept changing, Zion is magnificent. The one mile Mount Carmel tunnel was quite an experience, because of
our width we had to pay an extra $15 to have an escort through, although it appeared
that all the cars came behind us, and we were the lead vehicle! But it was
quite a trip, the tunnel was opened in 1930, and is really a great feat of
engineering.
The scenery
on the other side as we continued driving through the park was just as impressive,
and quite different to what we had seen yesterday. It really has been a
highlight of the trip.
We climbed
up to 8000 feet on the two hour trip through to Bryce Canyon,
and managed to secure a spot in the only campground within the park that was still
open. It is getting near to the end of the tourist season, especially when you
see patches of snow on the some of the hillsides.
Drove this
afternoon out to the end of the park and stopped off at many of the scenic
overlooks ending at Sunset Point. Once again this scenery is breathtaking,
looking down on brilliantly coloured spires (which are called hoodoos), can see
why so many people visit this park.
Planning to
head out in the morning to see the sunrise from Bryce Point,
and considering walking the trail down into the canyon….but there is an issue
of climbing back out again, and at this altitude it certainly isn’t easy!
Lots of
photos today, so just a few on the blog…..another wonderful day.
