Wednesday August 28, Hobuck Beach Resort

Tonight we are in an RV park on the north western most point of the US overlooking the Pacific Ocean…and it started to rain and no chance of any sunset photos!!
It was a great start to the day - breakfast with Witta and Dick at an Indian owned golf course in Sequim, wonderful gardens and facilities and good brekkie. There was fog hanging around the trees as we looked out over the course, very picturesque. Then it was time to say good bye, not sure when we will catch up again now that they have sold their Christchurch property, but know it will happen somewhere!!
Costco in Sequim was our next stop….after hearing from so many people over the years about the great prices and superb products we decided this year to spend $55 for a membership. Products tend to be in bulk, so our trolley included a pack of 30 rolls of toilet paper (should see us out for the trip!!) and a dozen rolls of paper towels along with a box of wine, beer, large pack of steak ( froze them individually) and a number of other bits and pieces. An interesting experience especially when we got to the checkout and they didn’t like my NZ credit cards. Luckily the instore ATM machine was quite happy to spit out some cash and that solved the problem.
By midday we were finally “On the Road”,  taking route 101. Stopped at Lake Crescent for lunch. Picture perfect, a dark turquoise colour and hardly a ripple. Spoke to someone taking photos of it and I commented how beautiful it was – she said that it was really unusual as normally there is quite a wind blowing through the valley.

Took the road out to the coast and continued up to Neah Bay on the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Thought it looked to be a straight road along the waters edge, but turned out to be really windy with some very tight corners. Ian was quite pleased to finally arrive at Neah Bay at 4, appears to be a large marina and fishing base, but the RV parks didn’t look that inviting, so didn’t stop as wanted to find a place to stop for the night.  Followed the road to Hobuck and found this really nice quiet campground. After sorting out all the supplies we bought this morning and packing them away, managed a beer sitting out overlooking the ocean before the spits of rain came.  Easy dinner tonight, bought a rotisserie chicken at Costco for $4.99, it was so big and moist, with heaps left over for lunches. Going to sleep tonight with the sound of rain on the roof, hopefully it will have cleared by the morning and I will be able to get some photos of the beach.
