Thursday October 9 Twin Lakes Campground, Bluffton, OH

We have had a really enjoyable day today, cruising through the backroads of central and north western Ohio. The land is flat with vast areas of corn and soya bean, turning golden colours as they dry off, and already some has been harvested. Tonight, the camp is a really pretty little place with some trees, and well laid out, the down side is that the I75 runs by about ½ mile away, the upside is that I can catch the sun setting on the corn fields….glorious light, so guess I can put up with some background droan.
Woke to a very clear day and not a cloud to be seen all day…it was back into shorts and sandals again! First stop was to pick up supplies in Delaware, then set a meandering route and stopped for lunch at a small park in Marion.
We had to wait for a train at a barrier crossing, and were amazed at the size of it. Three engines at the front, and we wished we had counted the wagons that it towed as it must have been two or three hundred loaded with containers, some 2 high and even whole trailer units with containers on them. You wonder why this method of transport isn’t used more often, it must be a huge saving in fuel costs, as well as wear and tear on our roads and pollution.
Onto a reservoir at Marseille, where we had a good chat with some locals, then continued on the back roads which run north/south and east/west, one mile apart. This is big grain producing country….different to anything we have seen on our travels, and makes a nice change. The properties are very well maintained and appears to be quite and affluent region.
The simplicity of the landscape reminds me of some of Graham Sydney’s paintings of Central Otago. All in all a very enjoyable and relaxing day.
