September 16 Tuesday, Digby Campground, Digby, NS

After quite a few grey days, we woke to a very clear sunny morning. As we had to have Ruakiwi into the garage by one oclock, decided that we would head to the Dartmouth Harbour, about 5 minutes drive away, and take the passenger ferry across the harbour to down town Halifax, rather than battling the bridge and the traffic. It was a good call, the 15 minute crossing sitting on the upper deck in the sunshine was great. We wandered around the harbour boardwalk, inspecting 2 luxury liners in port, and avoided the passengers off the two large cruise ships that were also docked! Meandered around the downtown shops and buildings, found a café for a really good coffee then headed back across the harbour.
Had to wait more than an hour for the service, but well worth it. They found the rubber boot over one of the spark plugs had a split in it that caused it to short when under load. So quite an easy fix, also the knocking in the front suspension was caused by a rubber bush that had popped out and was very easily replaced. They also adjusted the park brake, so we were all sorted and back on the road again by 4.30.
Decided to take the freeway to Digby, a 250 km trip, ready to catch the ferry to Saint John, New Brunswick tomorrow afternoon. We arrived about 7 after a very good drive, and decided to take the 10 minute walk into town and have a meal. Digby is renowned for its scallops, supposedly the biggest scallop fishery in North America, so I had them for tea….and they were really good. Ian enjoyed some fresh haddock…he is not a shellfish eater!
We walked along the harbour, and as we are back in the Bay of Fundy with its huge tides, the docks and steps are all built to rise up to 50 feet. The light was getting low, but look forward to checking it all out in the morning.
