Saturday September 13
September 13 Saturday Look-Off, Blomidon, NS
Woke to a fine drizzly rain that stayed with us most of the morning. Quite slow to get started, had a chat with Rajiv and Bobbie before we left this morning, they have quite a year of adventure ahead of them, as they are booked to fly out of Vancouver in November for India and Tibet.
We travelled north along the Annapolis Valley which is a fruit producing area, detoured to the coast to see Margaretsville a recommendation from the Nova Scotia tourist book, but it didn’t meet up to its write-up!. Picked up more supplies in Kentville, and stopped for lunch in a little orchard where we also bought some new seasons apples and pears.
Canning was a highlight of the day, I had talked online to the moderator of the ProShow Producer group ( audio visual software), and discovered Ellie lived in this town. She said we must stop by and meet her and husband Steve Kennard, so called into the village cafĂ©/art gallery for directions….and also a great cappucino!
Arrived to find Ellie was in town, so while we waited Steve showed us around …..what a talented couple. Steve is a woodworking artist, making exceptional small pieces as well as furniture…as well as a top photographer! I drooled over all his gear and studio set up, including a Hasselbad with a digital back. He photographs art works and as well as paintings and prints the reproductions. Ellie does all the computer developing of his work and is also a beta tester for Adobe and is currently testing Photoshop CS4. All in all it was a fascinating visit.
They recommended a campground about 15 minutes away with a view out over the area, looking down on a patchwork of cropping and pasture land, with the tidal areas of the Bay of Fundy in the distance.
A South African couple who are now living in Ontario spotted me with my camera gear, and got chatting…... It turned out they had done several courses with Freeman Patterson in South Africa…such a small world! They invited us to join them after dinner for a few drinks, great to share our travel experiences. This is the side of camping that we love….meeting really interesting people.
