Friday August 12, Klein Pritz, GERMANY
So love these houses. |
Such a beautiful morning at the marina, very warm but with a gentle breeze blowing and we were in no hurry to leave, in fact if we hadn’t booked the ferry I think we would have been tempted to stay another day. Another leisurely start after doing our van ablutions at the marina, we took the scenic route around the coast and what a treat. The roads weren’t the widest but there was little traffic and no one seemed to be in a hurry. Such wonderful countryside with lots of fields being harvested. And everywhere were thatch roof houses, just picture perfect. Drove to the small marina at Hesnaes and a beautiful beach then through a very narrow wooded road, meeting a truck coming from the other direction was interesting, but we pulled right over and stopped. We have so enjoyed Denmark and the architecture from the small country areas to the big towns.
We joined the main road and it was south to Gedser to catch the ferry to Rostock, Germany a two hour trip. I booked yesterday afternoon and there was only the 1.30pm crossing available, this is the end of the holiday season and is very busy. Had plenty of time and were soon in the queue for the ferry, and time to have a lunch break.
It was another smooth crossing for me thankfully. So many children on the ferry as schools aren’t back yet, also surprised to see dogs in the passenger area for the first time. Must admit to not being impressed to see a poor dog having to relieve himself, obviously his owner hadn’t walked him before the ferry trip.
Coming into Rostock and saw so many tall ships out in the harbour and huge crowds along the shore, a real festival. Googled and found that this is the annual 4 day Hanse Sail Rostock Festival, quite a festival. Managed one photo through the ferry window!
Then it was off the ferry and onto the very busy motorway as we left Rostock. Once again it seems to take awhile to adjust to a “new” country. We wanted to get out of the city and searched through P4N and found a spot in a country setting which sounded good. Ended up having an “interesting” ride through some back country roads before arriving at the spot. We noticed how dry everything was, and in places we could see that some crops had failed. I climbed the fence at camp into a field of sunflowers, that hadn’t done well. I picked one that was so tiny but fitted in my wee vase. Temperatures were up to 31 as we left the city and were pleased to see some trees providing shade and a nice breeze. No other campers here but a very peaceful spot. After the very long daylight hours in Scandinavia we are really noticing the shorter days as we head south. Sitting outside now writing this at 8.45 and the sun had dropped, but it is still very warm.
Not very clear but an amazing site at the festival in Rostock. |
A shady camp and a nice breeze. |
