More wonderful half timbered houses in Hoxter
As I am writing, looking out to the Weser River there is a real thunderstorm going on with rain, thunder and lightning. So surprising after we woke this morning to a stunning warm day with clear blue skies. Last year Germany had a three month drought over summer, you certainly can’t predict the weather.
It was only an hours drive this morning to Hoxter, we took the non-motorway route which followed the river. It was interesting as we first drove along the road that looked down on the cycle route we took on Saturday, realised how far we had ridden!
Stopped to top up our grocery supplies then continued on the east side of the Weser to Hoxter, a really nice drive. Found the campsite and nabbed a good spot overlooking the river. Chairs and table out as it was so warm, and enjoyed a leisurely lunch. I walked into town for a bit of retail therapy and a look around, Ian decided to put his feet up! Hoxter is a very interesting town with so many intricately decorated half timbered houses dating from the 1500’s, surprising to see these beautiful buildings with a modern store on ground floor level. The catholic church which dates from the 1100’s has two steeples, one of which is taller than the other, suspect there is a story about this but even with google’s help I couldn’t find anything about it. Had a look inside which was surprisingly plain, not at all like some of the ornate churches we have seen.
Sorry, but more photos of these very impressive half timbered houses, can’t help myself!!!
Some great scenery this morning.

Such intricate detailing on these buildings.

Outside the coffee and cake shop!

Looking down the row of campers tonight as the rain came in.
