The Weser River from camp...before the rain! |
Looking for a good spot for the
weekend where we could go cycling and came across this campground in
Weissehutte, which has very informal parking in a huge field bordering on the
Weser River. Well reviewed and looked a great spot to spend the weekend.
Set the GPS not to take motorways
and let Jilly decide the route. I didn’t even check, it was to be Jilly’s
Magical Mystery Tour day! And it turned out to be perfect, well almost. At the
start there were some rather interesting narrow roads through villages and then
over a section of cobbled road which was rather uneven, but no problems.
Last night Phillip was telling us
about the salt mines in the area, and today we realised that the huge white
“mountain” was in fact a huge pile of salt.
The trip then was on better roads
through really nice rural landscapes, with large areas of forest. Noticing a
number of patches of dead trees, we think they have the same pine beetle that
we saw in North America, and had just read that Poland has got it bad.
Arrived at camp this afternoon
and what a great spot, have a camp right on the river, really nice to be in a
grassy area. It is very relaxed and extremely peaceful. Had a very late lunch
and noticed the sky looking a bit ominous and by 3 oclock the rain had started
and it continued for much of the evening. Not sure about this German weather!!!
The rather interesting cobbled road!!! Fun when you meet a logging truck. |
