Friday August 23, Gorinchem

A perfect summer afternoon sitting on
the river bank under the trees.
We are really enjoying the Dutch waterways and today have found another excellent camp spot at a Marina on a spit of land between the Waal River and the marina.
Arriving under Jilly’s instructions was a bit difficult. We had read on site reviews that there were narrow roads through the town, but that was okay as they were one way. Cobbled streets wound through the town and we had glimpses of a very interesting town. Then an older chap waved us down and very kindly told us that they had closed one of the roads ahead which made it impossible to get to through. Oh dear, we asked him how to get through town, and he scratched his head then said, follow me. What a relief and we were so grateful as we tailed him through one way streets the crisscrossed town and canals until finally he stopped and pointed us to the final leg. Couldn’t thank him enough. The last section was rather narrow too, on top of a dyke but luckily no one else was coming.
Such a great spot with all facilities and free wifi for €12.50 a night, and some very friendly dutch neighbours as well as a couple from UK. This is another very busy waterway, and feel that it is even busier than where we stayed at Tolkamer.
Later this afternoon we took our chairs up to the river bank and sat under a tree with a few cold ones watching the passing traffic. So enjoying the weather which continues with warm days which cool down a bit overnight. Bikes out tomorrow and off to explore Gorinchem.
Washing day on the barge.

A bit of a race going on!

Not sure what you call these but I wouldn't want to be up there!

Evening on the river

I'm presuming that you were under a tree, but I did have a little giggle imagining you 2 on the side of a canal, huddled up under a chair
