Tuesday July 16, Mauthen, Austria

Life on the road....chores still have to be done!

Tonight, we are back in Austria again after a very “cruisey” sort of a day. We had a chat with our German neighbours and then did all the van “ablutions” before heading off to Lienz, our first stop. Another really good drive down through the valley following the Drau River, passing through a number of small villages with the mountains still towering above us. And the traffic thinned out, especially once we crossed the border into Austria.
Stopped in Lienz where there were a number of box stores for a big stock up at Lidl, lunch in the carpark then Ian had his favourite time wandering around the big hardware store, Obi, which he calls “Bunnings” on steroids! Found some bits and pieces he needed.
Had read of a nice spot to overnight at Mauthen, so wound back up into the mountains to 1000 metres and what a great location. It is run by the old Alpine Hotel and is very well set up with very attractive gardens and terraces. Did some washing and got it out in the sun to dry and Ian did a few bits of maintenance on the van, with all the movement with driving there always seems to be something coming loose that needs attending to. I went for a wander in the trees with my camera and surprised to see miniature cyclamen growing wild under the trees.
Today has been quite a bit warmer than we have had for the last week or so, and enjoying sitting outside soaking it up…guess I will be complaining about the heat soon!!!
