Wonderful ride. |
What a great day….back on our
bikes for a really decent ride. Thought we might have taken the cycle route
that continues on through this valley to Lienz, following the Drau River but ended
up taking another route that follows the old train track up through the
Dolomites towards to Cortina d’Ampezzo. Theory being that it would be uphill
and we could have an easy ride home!!!
Very impressed with how well the
cycle routes are marked, making them so easy to follow. Lots of bikers out and
about. We rode through the trees, climbing all the way and passing several
lakes. And the beautiful peaks of the Dolomites towering above us.
Stopped at an Austrian Military
Cemetery for soldiers lost during WW1, it was beautifully laid out on the side
of a steep hill in amongst the trees, a fitting tribute to them.
Came across a restaurant beside
the road, perfect timing as it was midday and we were both feeling ready for a
stop. Had a “cold” drink and a platter of cold meats and cheeses. Perfect.
Continued on a bit further to another lake by which time we decided to turn
around and head home. Very pleased it
was downhill all the way back and arrived home before a shower of rain came
over. All up cycled 35kms and climbed 250 metres to 1400 metres. It was a good
workout.
Once again lots of mountain
photos, but guess that is where we are at the moment and they are so
breathtaking.
Loved the pedal boat |
The very nice Military Cemetery |
Lunch stop...picturesque. |
They look like thistle flowers, but definitely a different alpine plant. |
