Thanks Elisabeth...high up in the Austrian mountains. |
A real catch up, with two blogs loaded tonight!!!
Elisabeth had organised another
treat for us this morning. Her Mum and Dad took us all out for breakfast, which
was high up on the Kitzbuhler Horn. What a drive, the last sections were like a
rally route, winding up on a one way road where it was essential for one
vehicle to reverse if you met!. Finally arrived at the traditional mountain
restaurant where many bikers (MTB) and hikers were enjoying breakfast. In winter
this is in the middle of a ski field and a welcome spot for skiers to relax and
warm up. Elisabeth’s sister hiked from
the bottom and joined us for breakfast.
It was a real birds eye view through
the valley and across to the mountains on the other side, and we could even see
the home farm. Breakfast included scrambled eggs and a platter of cold meats
and cheeses, home made butter and spreads. It was wonderful to be part of this
family and enjoying their world.
It was late morning when we got
back to the farm, and we sadly said farewell to Elisabeth who was off to
Salzburg for a party and then Hanni arrived with a “goodie bag” for us of her
own yoghurt, granola, cranberry jam and elderflower syrup…so that we can make
our own “Hugo: cocktails! They have just been the most amazing hosts and we
felt very sad saying goodbye. It truly has been a special time for us.
Back on the road and we followed
some routes that Elisabeth and Hunni had suggested which took us on some lesser
roads through the mountains. Tonight, we found a camping area on a dairy farm,
quite “interesting”, but the scenery is amazing and very, peaceful. And as I am
writing this at 10.30pm, we are in the middle of a huge thunderstorm with
lightning and some huge wind gusts that shook the van, even though we are very
sheltered.
