A great spot...and a photography gallery! |
After a very grey misty morning and some drizzle, by the
time we set off on our bikes the blue sky had appeared and it was really warm
and sunny. It was one of the better rides we have had, the surface was sealed
all the way and we passed through a real diverse range of scenery, including
small villages, old ruins, chateau’s and the Dordogne River. Along with a 500m
tunnel.
This is a big area for walnut growing with many farmed
blocks and it is harvest time. We crunched so many walnuts with our bike tyres
from trees growing over the track. People were out collecting them with hand
operated wire cages as well as big machines like road sweepers. We stopped at
one block where a machine was working with an old couple, who we presume were
the owners of block, helping. They were delightful and made sure we took some
of their walnuts!
We stopped at the old railway station at Carlux for lunch at
the café and what a treat, it has recently been renovated and also features a
photographic gallery featuring the work of Robert Doisneau. He is famous for
his Paris street photography but this exhibition showcases the work he made of
people in the Dordogne area between the wars. It was such a treat to see these
wonderful images especially in such an unexpected place.
We arrived home quite chuffed after our 38km ride, a great
day. And completed with a very pleasant evening chatting over a few drinks with
our British “neighbours” Tim and Indie, love sharing places and stories with
fellow travellers.
