Bike trail

Blue skies and a really warm day made us feel like summer was back, a great day for driving. We have really missed our cycling so today we headed for a camp spot on the Dordogne River very close to the Voie Verte with a good ride along the river on an old train line.
The drive through was very pleasant, much of it was in the forest covered hills of a national park. Lots of coloured leaves and they were really blowing with quite strong winds today. I think we are getting the edge of a storm that is causing mayhem in Spain. Never seem to tire of seeing the small villages dotted around the countryside, and coming into the Dordogne Region we notice quite a different style of buildings.
Arrived in the small village of Carsac and such a wonderful Aire, a large grassed area dotted with walnut trees and a number of campers already here. And they were enjoying the wind blowing the walnuts to the ground, with quite a number of people out with bags collecting them.
Had a wander through town which has several restaurants, a boulangerie, small grocery store and a pharmacy. Got the bikes out and had a 15km return ride to the start of the trail at Sarlat-la-Caneda. Such a great ride that passed through autumn coloured trees, many of which were oaks. Just so good to be back on our bikes. By the time we got home the clouds had come in and by seven o’clock we had light rain which is forecast to continue overnight. Hopefully it will be fine by the morning so we can do the longer section of the trail.
