Beautiful stonework at Xanten Cathedral |
A little slow getting started
this morning, we had enjoyed a great night! By the time Ian put all the sliding
bins back in the boot and I repacked our gear back in it was late morning
before we said a sad farewell to Conny and Hitten. They have been so good to
us, arranging bookings for Ruakiwi and putting up with us!!! Really
appreciated.
We headed north and our first
stop was at Xanten and a trip to the supermarket to get some fresh supplies
before parking in town and having a walk around this historic town. The sun was
shining but the air was cool and the few people that were out and about were
rugged up with coats, scarves and hats. It’s a real feeling of winter, but
enjoyed a good walk especially the beautiful Xanten Cathedral with it’s
intricate stone work.
Continued north through
wonderful farming country with many barns housing cattle, and interspersed were
lots of trees still with their autumn coats. The sun was shining but could see
some black clouds to the west and before we got to Arhus the heavens opened and
it rained and blew and we drove through a sea of falling leaves, but within 10
minutes of arriving the rain had cleared and it was dead calm again. Certainly
cooler though and after plugging into electricity, we hunkered down for the
evening with the heater on.

Pretty streets of Xanthen |
|
..and even a windmill, and we are not in Holland! |

Not long after this glorious sunshine... |
|
...the wind and rain started. |
