Wednesday July 20, Moscow ID

A bit of a low key slower day, time to catch up on a few chores after 3 fairly busy days. Ruakiwi had a bath at a great little car wash in Palouse and also used our brush and gave her a good wax, so looking pretty smart. Problem is we don’t want to take her on any dusty roads for awhile!

The drive through to Pullman meandered along through the same rolling hills, they say that by next month when the oats have ripened, the hills turn to gold. Must be quite a sight. We wondered what the crop was with little plants that looked a bit like peas with white flowers and heard today that they are lentils, a crop that this area grows heaps of.

Drove through Pullman and back into Idaho and the neighbouring city of Moscow, home of the University of Idaho. A real uni town with tree covered streets and old brick buildings, and a population of about 20,000. Parked the van and explored the town, but didn’t really excite us. After stopping at a cafĂ© for lunch found a good Laundromat and caught up on the washing.

We enjoyed a good walk through the University Arboretum, a chance to stretch the legs, but had a real hiccup trying to take photos. For my photog friends, my Canon 24 – 105 lens malfunctioned again….the same thing happened on our first trip and cost $400 to fix. Feel a bit gutted about it and not sure what I will do as this is my real workhorse lens, use it 90% of the time especially for weddings. Can’t get if fixed until we get back to NZ and thinking that maybe I will need to replace it….!!!!!! Anyway guess will sort that out tomorrow but feels a bit expensive!

We called into the info centre in town to ask about RV camping places and she mentioned the normal wall to wall RV Resort type places, then said that there were camping spots at the County Fairgrounds. Sounded good to us and what a wonderful place to park the night. We could hook up to electricity etc at a cost or just park for no cost….two guesses what we are doing tonight! Anyway very pleasant and quiet, and sat under a tree while dinner was cooking on the barbecue.
