Sunday August 31

August 31 Sunday, Cedar Pines Provincial Park, West Point, PEI

As I am writing this, I am looking directly out to sea across Northumberland Bay, no more than 50 metres from the water….a great spot.
We had a fun day visiting the Acadian Festival in Abram-Village, about 30 mins drive from the camp. Took the coastal route to Abram-Village and along the way, came across a magnificent church on the coast at Mont Carmel, hard to believe that such a big building was built in what must have then been quite a remote place. The large two story rectory looked to be empty.
Arrived at the village to find we had just missed the blessing of the fishing boats as part of the festival, but arrived in town and found a good parking spot. We spotted a private house with the most amazing moving Arcadian figures on the front lawn, playing fiddles, rowing boats and even playing the piano. Had to investigate and got chatting to the engineer who creates them…he only puts them on display for a week around the festival time.
There were lots of activities going on at the Festival which was in the town centre, including a display with 2 well trained horses and heading dogs, very impressive. There was not as much of an Arcadian flavour to it as we expected, but lots of fun.
The parade got underway at one and what a lot of fun with heaps of floats, the whole region is in party mode with huge crowds positioned along the road cheering it on.
Headed West up the centre of the island and out to Cedar Pines. The lighthouse is only a 5 min walk away, and has a licensed restaurant attached featuring local seafood…so we are off out for tea tonight. It will make a nice change.
Later……just home from our meal, and what a great spot. It used all local produce, and I had the special….a whole lobster served with a baked potato and fresh beans, followed by a desert, all for $22!!! Ian had some very good fresh haddock and chips. After a bottle of good French white wine we ambled home along the beach feeling very content with life.

So they duct tape people to ploughs there?! That's a tough way of making sure people participate in the parade, you better watch who you talk to!

The weather appears to be improving back home BTW, which is a relief.
