Thursday August 28...Blackville
August 28 Thursday Blackville, Miramichi NB
Well Ian is on Cloud 9 tonight, we are “dry camping” (meaning not in a campground) beside the world famous salmon fishing, Miramichi River, and he has organised a guide to meet us tomorrow morning at 7 and is going with him to fish for salmon, and I will be the photographer recording the event!
It is amazing how it all happened. The day started out a little later…..I slept in! We drove south into Miramichi, one of the bigger cities in New Brunswick, and stopped for supplies. There were a whole series of events that led us to a little bookstore, where we met a retired history teacher, who directed us to a nearby fishing store, He was able to put us onto a fishing guide based at Blackville, about 30 minutes out of town up the river. By the time we arrived, Perry Peterson the guide, had arranged with the local mayor for us to stay in the local park beside the river….there were no campgrounds near by. We met him at the local fishing store, a neat little place were we watched the lady tying flies using green dyed deer hide. A really nice chap.
After a drive around town ( a few stores) we went for a bike ride through the park and down by the river where we spotted four guys salmon fishing. Although we didn’t see any caught were amazed to see them jumping all around.
Had bought some farmed salmon for tea….a taste for tomorrow!
