July 31 Thursday, Trout Water Campground, Sunderland, ON
I woke at 6.15…early for me, and looked out and saw a bright coloured sunrise. Got dressed, grabbed camera and tripod, and down the road a few hundred metres, where there was a cornfield with a barn on the horizon. Although I should have been there earlier, I still managed to get some good morning light.
We left camp by 8.30 and headed into St Jacobs for the Farmer’s Market, this had been highly recommended, but wondered if it would be overated, as some things have proven to be, but it was brilliant. There were so many stalls overflowing with summer produce…vegetables and fruits including peaches, nectarines, cherries, strawberries, blueberries and red currants, all set out in little baskets. We bought a good selection of fruits and vegetables…peppers, courgettes and beans. Then some fresh beef, pork and summer sausage, a type of salami. Loaded them into the fridge in the RV and off to the livestock sales, really interesting watching them sell cull cows individually. Hard to understand the auctioneer.. wish I had a tape recorder. A very fast flow through of animals with many Mennonites working with the stock. It was a great morning.
Headed off East, and told “Jilly” where we were wanting to head, and not to take any motorways…proved to be a great drive through some very productive country. Stopped beside the dam in Elora for lunch, next stop was at Newmarket ( no Lynn…not your town!) and a visit to a huge shopping mall for a few things and a look around.
It was after 5 before we arrived at the campground, very small, with a lot of permanent people, but tidy and clean, and a good breeze blowing. It had got to 27 degrees today, hoping that as we head north again, the weather will cool a little.
