August 7th

August 7 Thursday, Red Setter Campground, Trent River ON

First stop this morning in Peterborough was at the lift lock, which is the highest lift lock in the world at 18metres. There is a system of locks called the Trent Severn Canal system which joins a number of lakes enabling boats to travel from Lake Ontario to Georgian Bay on Lake Huron, and incorporates many locks. Now they are only used for pleasure boats, but are a great tourist attraction with many houseboats used for holidays. We watched a short video on the waterway first, then were able to watch as 6 boats loaded into the lock and were lifted 18 metres, and this took less than 5 minutes.
Drove into Peterborough and found Walmart to go bike shopping for Ian. He found a good bike for $200, pushed it through the aisles of the mart, and up to the checkout to get it scanned.. felt really strange!. Out the carpark and managed to tie it onto the back of the RV with my bike. No stopping us now!Back to Peter and Pam’s and collected the hinges, that had finally arrived, and headed north east, around Peterborough, and arrived at a campground on the Trent River. Got out of the van to a sea of mosquitoes, so very quickly put the repellant on. Ian changed his bike seat and we set off with the laptop in my backpack, and up to the office to connect to wifi.
