August 6 Wednesday, Rice Lake, Keene ON
Can’t believe how lucky we have been with the weather, with all the rain last night woke to another blue sky day. We were waiting on some replacement hinges for the van that we had ordered from the manufacturers to be sent to Peter’s, which were due to arrive today.
Peter took us to an Indian reservation just past Buckhorn, where there was an excellent gallery, featuring work from the “First Nation” people. I found it very interesting, as I must admit that I really didn’t have any ideas about the Indian people…..all I knew was the “Cowboys and Indian’s” we played as children.
Still no parcel, so decided to have an afternoon siesta in the RV and wait till it arrived. Rang UPS soon after 4…and they said it would be delivered before 8! Such a nuisance.
So headed for a night in Peterborough, and will collect tomorrow.
Nice drive through, starting to get back into farmland again. Picked up some supplies, and headed to a conservation park East of town. It was getting on towards 7 and we were looking forward to a stop. By the way we have sacked “Jilly” the American girl speaking on the GPS, and replaced her with Emily, a much more easily understood girl – she’s English! So under Emily’s directions for a lodging, we arrived at the Park, only to find it was closed! After much debate headed south for another 10kms to a Provincial Park near Keene, but just before we got there, spotted a park with a lot of vans in it. Pulled in, and were relieved that they had a space available for an Overnight stay. The majority of the camp is seasonal, most people having their own mobile units permanently on site. Some of these sort of camps can get very “tacky”, but this was extremely good, and we were directed to a site one row back from Rice Lake. Very, very pleased to settle in and get tea underway as it was 8 oclock.
