Friday September 2, Eußertha

Not many photos today, heading into town
for dinner...that didn't happen!
It has been another one of those days, although very nice blue skies and about 25 degrees.

First stop was at a Lidl near camp to have a bit of a stock up, especially with the weekend coming up. Then a bit further to a place where we could do the van ablutions, there was nothing available at the winery, but they directed you to this spot. Job done and then onto a list of places we had made to stay in. Loved this region and wanted to spend some more time in it. Lots of wineries offer accommodation so we chose a few that looked good, put the co-ordinates of the first one in the GPS and set off. 20 minutes later arrived only to find they were choc-a-block. Reset Jilly with the next address and off again, all going well until a road closure and not really understanding the signage came to a dead end, turned around and took a nearby road that Google Maps suggested, through very narrow streets only to find at the end we could turn right of left, and both were dead ends due to the road works. And then several more cars came behind us, also taking a wrong turning then a ute came along with a trailer on and he also needed to turn around. A real traffic jam, and a little relieved that we weren’t the only ones.  Ian pulled right over, I got out to see what we could do and a very friendly German tried to help, but no English and he kept talking to me in German!!! The Ute finally managed to turn around by removing some of the barriers and eventually Ian backed around and drove back down the very narrow street, and we finally got back to the main road and found a garden centre to park in and regroup.

Headed back to the motorway and started travelling south before stopping for fuel and parking up with the trucks for a very late lunch, it was now 1.45! More checking for sites and decided on one about 20 minutes away, that appeared to be a bit more out of the way and had quite a number of spaces. But arrived to find it to was booked out! Evidently with the harvest starting and so many more people with motorhomes after Covid, they are booked out pretty much all of September and October, it is a case of booking ahead. They were very good though and suggested this spot, 10 minutes away, in a small village, that is just a private camper area, on a valley floor surrounded by forest, not a vineyard to be seen. So relieved to find that there were only two others here and very grateful at 3.30 to finally park up for the night. And there is a recommendation of a good restaurant in the village just 10 minutes walk away. Perfect!

…Later. The day certainly didn’t get better, we walked into town to the restaurant, only to find they were closed until 25 September on their holidays!!! Had checked with Google and they said they opened at 6pm, a little frustrating to walk home and then cook dinner!! It really was one of those days!

The Closed Restaurant!

Spoke to this chap, couldn't understand
him except we did work out that he was
from Bosnia, working in this town. Such
a shame with the language barrier as would
have like to have learnt a bit more.
