Lunch stop in Volcach

We have had a great day out on our bikes, this is certainly a very bike friendly area with signposted bike paths in all directions. Set off winding our way up from the river to the vineyards and meandered along the sealed bike paths to the neighbouring village where we road around the little streets, under the overhanging grape vines. Such a peaceful atmosphere. Continued back to the river where along with other cyclists we took the ferry that crossed the river to the town of Fahr, and only €1 each. Followed the designated very wide cycle path along the Main River to Volkach, a town that certainly celebrates being in the centre of this Franconian wine growing area. There were cyclists everywhere and lots of cafes and wine bars, and we soon found one to stop for lunch in a shady courtyard. Sylvanner is the main wine from this area, so of course we had to sample while we waited for our meal! It was so good and we soon found our way to winery where it was produced. And the delightful girl serving us actually spent 3 months in NZ in 2017. Whenever we mention that we are from NZ people have either been there, know someone who has been or really want to go.

Headed back to camp and happy to get home and sit in the shade and cool down. And quite happy to have a wee siesta!!! Seems like there may be a bit of rain coming tomorrow and hopefully it will cool the air down a little.

A very interesting winery, not sure if it was
designed by Hunderwasser. Looked a bit run
down, we didn't go in.

Great cycle paths

Our ferry across the Main River

I didn't get this girls name, but she spent time
in New Zealand.

Really nice spot for lunch.

Your photo coverage today show the villages and country side well. Live the buntings and especially the vines across the roads. And you’re lunch stop ideal.
