Sunday June 12, Geertruidenberg

The old church on the edge of the market square,
many groups of people at the bars surrounding
the square enjoying the sunny afternoon.

Finally, we are starting to feel human again and coming out of the dead brain feeling and settling  into our gypsy way of life (have tested again and definitely not Covid!). Another warm pleasant day and really just cruising. Conny and Hitten headed home this morning, and we will be there on Tuesday. Decided it was time to do some washing and other chores this morning, interesting deciphering the camps washing machines with all instructions in Dutch, but made it.

Took our bikes out for the first time this afternoon, into the neighbouring village of Raamsdonksveer for a supermarket shop. And as always, it never ceases to amaze us how set up the Dutch are with cycle lanes, on both sides of the road, making everything so easy. Everyone is on bikes. Very big bike racks at the supermarkets, so locked our bikes into them, although surprisingly many were just parked. Find our first visit to a supermarket in a new country takes quite awhile, trying to work out what is what. Loaded the shopping into the paniers and back home.

For the first time on the trip, I felt in the mood to go for a walk with my camera, left Ian behind and wandered into the old town. Came across a young couple with a child trying to prop a cellphone up to take a family photo, I offered to help but when they spotted my camera, asked if I could take some photos and email them. Couldn’t say no, and they were very friendly. And wandering around the very old church came across some older ladies, one spoke very good English and could tell me the church was built in the 14 Century. It had been a Catholic church but now was Protestant and they also use it for concerts and weddings. Turned out to be a very pleasant walk.

Intriguing window display!
Quite the Poser
Just delightful

The streets are just so neat and tidy.

Typical street scene, houses opening up onto the
street and bikes parked outside.

Had a bit of fun with my camera!

Not the best at selfies, just back from our bike ride.

No doubt about it, you’re starting to get onto the holiday and photography groove. Must have been great to get on those bikes. Looking very happy, I love the “older ladies”, they look good sorts.
