Friday August 2, Forchheim
Forchheim |
We had such a good night but
Ian’s back suffered a bit today. Had found a place at Forchheim, about 1 ¼
hours drive away on the Main-Danube Canal which read very well and has a lot of
cycling. Thought it was a good place to spend a few days. Took the easy option
for the drive, using the autobahns all the way, not as interesting as the
secondary roads but sometimes it’s a good option.
Settled in, I walked to the
nearby supermarket and picked up some bread rolls for lunch. Everything is very
handy. Ian had a quiet afternoon settling his back down, and I walked over a
footbridge into the town of Forchheim, not knowing what it would be like but
very pleasantly surprised.
Have read a bit on google, and
seems in this town, a royal court and palace was built in the early 800’s.
There are many half timbered houses lining the market centre, and they are well
restored. Enjoyed walking through this cobbled area which is blocked to
vehicles.
The rest has done Ian good and is
feeling a lot better tonight.
The old buildings reflected in this new addition. |
