Wednesday July 30, Vilshofen

Rode passed this tranquil pond.

Decided not to move today, wanted to have a look around and it’s a very pleasant spot. A number of vans moved out this morning so we were able to shift into a better spot that had a clear view of the river. Got the bikes out but a wee shower of rain came over so time for a coffee before it cleared and we headed over the bridge to the town to pick up some bread rolls for lunch and a few other bits and pieces. A cruise boat was tied up to dock but didn’t notice the passengers, maybe they were off on a bus trip. Quite fun cycling around the town streets, something we need to get a bit more confident with.
Back to the van for some lunch before heading upstream on a very nice bike path. Could see some wet weather coming so turned around and for the last 5 kms we were in the rain. It bucketed down for a few hours and I thought it had finished so set off downstream but after 5 kms the rain came again, doomed. But it’s been good to have such great cycleways on our doorstep.

We spent a day in Vilshofen when we changed ships due to the river being high. We walked to the abbey on top of the hill. I did a bus trip to Regensburg from here. Some very pretty old villages around that area.
