Wednesday July 10, Nuziders, Austria
Pascal was off to work before we
woke this morning….5.30 to catch the train! We joined Lisa and the children
later for coffee and a chat before setting off for Austria. Do smile at how we
have been in three countries in three days!
First mission today was to sort
out about the electronic device we need to be able to drive on the motorways in
Austria, its called a Go Box and as we are over 3.5 tonnes we needed to use
this rather than just a Vignette sticker that vehicles under 3.5 tonnes use. We
first stopped at a service station on the motorway just before the border but
they told us to continue onto the border where we could buy one. Got there and
no luck either, were sent on to the next service station in Austria where we
had success and there was a girl who spoke good English. Filled out all the
paperwork, quite lengthy, paid €80 and we have our box which is “velcro’ed”
onto the windscreen. We don’t plan to use the motorways but this is here in
case we need to. And when we leave Austria we return it to an agent who will
refund most of the money that is not used.
Interesting arriving in another
country and immediately it feels different and we find it takes a few days to
learn the different brands such as names of supermarkets and fuel stations. We
had an hours drive through a valley to a campsite we had seen that had laundry
facilities….time for the linen to have a good wash. We are surrounded by high
peaks, some with still a little snow, very picturesque. And the cleanest
facilities in a campsite that we have been in. There are even dried flower
arrangements in the bathrooms!
Nothing much in the way of photos, just a few snaps of the mountains!
