Saturday July 13, Glorenza

Loved these Vespa's in the town square.
Had a great day, and I have had my “happy face” on as we have been out on our bikes. The rain showers continued through the night and until later this morning but then the sun came out…and so did the bikes. We are right on a bike trail that climbs up into the mountains and is extremely popular as we have seen by the number of bikes going flying past here. Mountain bikes, road bikes and “old” people on bikes!!!
Decided on the sensible option to go uphill on the way out, and good call as it was quite a gradient all the way along with a head wind. Turned on the turbo but we still had to work at it, probably because we are not at all bike fit as have done so little cycling this trip. The track followed the stream most of the way up and passed through fields and apple orchards. Spotted several unusual looking bunkers in the fields, presumably relics from the war. Passed through several villages before turning around for the very quick trip home….no pedalling required.
Later this afternoon went for another ride in the opposite direction and had a good poke around the back streets of Glorenza, before a stop in the square as Ian decided that now he was back in Italy, an Aperol was required!!! The weather is still reasonably cool but certainly not complaining….just need another layer at times! And such a treat to be in these picturesque valleys surrounded by mountains.

The skies were heavy but the views great.

A village church beside the path.

Guess this was a relic from the war.

The medieval town still has its high walls.

Kia ora Whanau, been a while since I said Hello so a good time. Looked up your location on Goggle earth and lots of cultivation, rows of orchard trees and hedge rows. Fascinating to think people have been living here for such a long time compared to recently settled NZ. All well in our world, I go to work 2 or 3 days a week when I am in the mood or at home, Luxury to only work when it suits. I have been looking up your blog from when you visited Alaska, have a tentative plan for a visit in 2020, one comment I saw was when our Matai gathering Friend Andrea had just had a baby son, Alexander is now 9 years old and has a younger sister and brother. Wet, stormy early morning here and I have just seen a Weka exploring the garden, not as spectacular as a Moose or Bear but fun to see wild creatures, pleased to read you are feeling well and a little fit, and the sun is making an appearance. Lots of Love Ed Bright
