Friday June 7, Cefalu
We were given these lemons when we arrived at the camp. Perfect for the bot, shame I didn't have any honey! |
Seems like Ian has been very kind
and passed on his bot, not the best thing to have now that the weather has
turned so hot! Anyway, just need to get
on with it and hope it doesn’t hang on too long. Today’s destination was a
campground just out of Cefalu which had been recommended to us. Thought we
might take the secondary coast road rather than the motorway, but it wasn’t
long before we realised that it would be a very testing three hour drive as it
passed through many small villages where the roads were rather narrow and it
was like playing dodgems with the oncoming cars. The better option was to hit
the toll road, with only an hour and half drive.
This is a very rocky area and the
hills run right down to the coast, so the toll road has been built higher up
with tunnels through the hills and bridges over the valleys. We counted and got
to 49 tunnels, with many a kilometre and more long. The views out to the coast
were stunning. I think we would have spent at least 50% of the journey in
tunnels or on bridges, but the surface was good and it was an easy drive.
Arrived at the camp with the
temperatures already in the thirties and were shown to a very nice site parked
in under the trees. Perfect. It is a really nice camp, which is tiered down to
a sandy beach, the road is lined with flowers and everything is very clean and
tidy. Very friendly French neighbours chatted and shared ideas of places to
visit in Sicily. I am feeling pretty under the weather and Ian is still feeling
pretty jaded so it was easy to have an afternoon siesta. Planning tomorrow to
catch the bus at the gate and visit Cefalu. Very few photos again, not feeling
inspired!
Out of one tunnel and into the next! |
The countryside is looking much drier. |

Maybe combine these lemons with gin and see what that does for the bot.
