Saturday May 18, Santarcangelo di Romagna
Looking down over the rooftops of Santarcangelo |
Last night the heavens opened and
it rained and rained. This is not the Italian weather we were expecting. Sat
over maps and apps this morning deciding where we would go, and the forecast
was not that good. Had read about Santarcangelo being a very nice town and
found a good new motorhome parking spot close to it. Decision done. At one
stage during the drive the rain was that heavy that we thought we were going to
have to pull over, but it eased and we continued.
Jilly had one of her rather hairy
moments when she took us up in the hills and around the town instead of a
direct route, suspect it was regarding the village and the weight limits of
vehicles, but still not sure. The scenery would have been great with rolling
hills dotted with vines and cypress trees, so Italian looking, but it was very
misty with the rain.
Found our camping spot easily and
perfect, very new and clean and after a very late morning coffee we walked into
town, carrying umbrellas but the rain had stopped. The town is very
picturesque, with buildings dating from Roman times on a hill. Somehow, I think
Ian organises it that we do a town walk early afternoon when all the shops are
shut!!! They were very smart, upmarket stores, enjoyed window shopping though!
We walked and walked and right up to the top with views over the towns and the
surrounding area, thinking we need something to measure how far we have walked,
certainly getting fit!!! The roses were blooming and there were pots of vibrant
coloured flowers outside every door, the smell just gorgeous.
Just got back to the van in time
for a very very late lunch as the rain started again. It has been quite a busy
time over the past 10 days so decided to have a relaxing afternoon and work out
where we will go from here. The forecast for tomorrow is really wet again.
Florence is where we would like to go but struggling to find a good place to
stay, there are several proper campsites but their prices are huge and not what
we want. Work in progress.
One for you Bruce B!! |
From what I could work out these were old stones from the Roman era. |

A very narrow street... in fact we couldn't pass until he shifted the car. Don't think we would fit Ruakiwi in here! |
Italian fashino through the window. |
The town square. |
