The man and the pigeons in Comacchio |
Spent time this morning trying to
load my blog and photos but the signal was very poor and only just managed to
get the words loaded. Happy tonight to have good wifi and have just loaded the
photos.
Left the camp at mid-morning, it
was such a great place to stay and everyone was so friendly. Would recommend it
to anyone thinking of going to Venice. Set Jilly for our first stop at
Comacchio, a two hour drive down the coast. It was an easy drive as all flat
with only snippets of views of the water. Many trucks on the road but once
again happy to have a slower trip following them and not trying to pass, Ian
had a chance to enjoy the scenery. This is quite marshy looking country with
patches of cropping. And so many red poppies growing amongst the crops.
Stopped at a designated parking
area in the town of Comacchio just behind a supermarket. I popped in to pick up
some buns for lunch, but we are not enjoying the bread in Italy so far, it is
so different to anything we have had in Europe, it seems to be lacking in
substance. Let’s hope we can find something better – or maybe I need to cook a
pot of pasta for lunch!!!
Comacchio is called a little
Venice, with canals and bridges through the town, so went for an explore. Quite
an interesting town, a very traditional Italian village that is off the tourist
track. Enjoyed our walk but maybe we were spoilt by Venice yesterday. Back to
the van via the supermarket to pick up a few fresh things before heading off to
Porto Corsini where we had found a camping spot near the Adriatic.
Turned out to be a very good
spot, €6 a night and a short walk to the coast which is a haven for
kitesurfers. We walked about half way out the breakwater which is 2 kms long,
and enjoyed watching all the activity including quite a number of boats
entering the port, they all seemed to be oil tankers which we presumed were
servicing the oil rigs we could see off shore. Intrigued with the sheds on the
breakwater with their large fishing nets, and watched as they dropped them in
and later pulling them up. Presume they are fishing for small fish such as
sardines although the two dips we saw produced very little.
Enjoying a quiet night and have a
wee Prosecco after a bottle dropped into my shopping trolley this afternoon, it
is extremely good.
