Tuesday September 11 Ortgueira

Do hope they are pegged on well!

Noticing the dark mornings with the sun not rising until 8am and daylight saving does not end until the end of October. Hard to imagine how dark it will be in the mornings then, although can’t quite figure out if as we go south will it get earlier. Just about need to take my watch off in Spain, as time doesn’t seem to mean anything!
Trying to put aside the coughing, running eyes and sneezing and just need to get on with our travels. This morning there was a market in Foz, just along from where we were camped, the first Spanish one we have been too. It was very big with lots of traders, but rather disappointing as seemed to be mainly cheap clothing stalls and footwear. There were several bakeries, some fruit stalls and a quite a few selling cured meats but didn’t have the buzz we have been used to at markets. It was only 10am and people seemed to be only just arriving, so probably got a lot busier.
Decided to head further west along the coast to Viveiro. It was a very overcast morning, sea mist rolling in and a light drizzle as we headed along the coast. Amazing roads and very little traffic. School is back but actually haven’t seen any schools…all a bit strange. Passed through eucalypt plantations all along the way and logging trucks taking away logs. Everything is very green and lush, not at all like the Spain I imagined.  Lots of little seaside villages which are quiet now that the holiday season is over.
I have included a photo of a road sign for a parking area that makes me smile everytime I see it, looks very much like a “loo” stop!!! Stopped at a parking area near a big supermarket in Viveiro and had a good stock up, then continued on after lunch to this small coastal town of Ortgueira. Had planned to stop in the carpark by the marina, but it was closed off as they were repainting all the markings. Found another carpark a little further out of town and parked up with several other campers.
We were both feeling a bit the worse for wear so had a wee nana nap which recharged the batteries. Walked along the waterfront back into town, the tide was in and it was very pleasant. Sat under the plane trees and had a wee vino at the local bar watching the world pass by. Kids were swimming off the promenade and the locals were out for their evening walks. A very pleasant evening. We are in the Galicia region and had read about their Celtic heritage, so not completely surprised to see a big statue of a piper in the centre of town.
There are now 8 other motorhomes parked in this quiet corner beside a park … and the local police station is next door so feel really safe!

The smile says it all

Left with the baby.

Long gone.

Colourful apartments at Viveiro

Just have to smile everytime I see it.

Seaside towns dotted all along the coast.

A nod to their Celtic heritage

Beautiful evening on the promenade.

We were astonished to see a Spanish pipeband at a doodlesack festival in the Czech Republic years ago .
