The canal at Malestroit |
New Zealand is really having some
rotten weather with lots of snow and rain and rivers are breaking their banks
in the South Island, thinking of you all, and if it helps we have had a much
cooler day in France with temperatures not really getting over 18 degrees and a
lot of wind. We have had a “driving day” getting to Brittany. Instead of taking
the faster main roads we took a scenic route on the lesser roads that took us
through mainly pastoral land with more animals than we have seen for a long
time. The countryside reminded us very much of England with rolling hills and
many patches of bush as we drove into Brittany. And there was a definite change
in the architecture with pointed stone buildings with slate roofs, once again
looking more British than we have seen in France. The route took us through
Chateaubriant and Bain de Bretagne.

Loved how this wonderful church was on the other side of the street from a row of houses. Sorry about the power pole but had to take it out the window of the camper! |

Different building materials and architecture. |
We are heading for the coast but
found what really looked to be a nice spot in the village of Malestroit which
is on the canal that runs from Brest to Nantes with what looks to be good canal
paths for cycling.
It looks to be a really nice old
village but will get the bikes out tomorrow and go exploring. The bridge over
the lock is so picturesque with flowers all around it and we watched as a boat
passed through the lock. The Aire which is free is very full and we are
wondering if something is going on tomorrow, although can’t see any GB
registered vehicles to find out. Check out all the signs on the notice board
but nothing seemed to apply, guess we will find out.
