Today has been a “stay put” day
at this great Stellplatz we arrived at yesterday afternoon. We had driven along
the Mosel yesterday stopping at towns along the road, the sun came out and the
autumn colours glowed. It is a very popular tourist destination with some of
the bigger towns like Cochem having a number of cruise boats tied up, with
their passengers wandering the streets. This is wine country and every town has
numerous wineries and many restaurants.
Many of the Stellplatz’s in the
bigger towns were quite full, but found this spot beside the river in the very
small town of Neef which doesn’t have any shops but a number of wineries and
guest houses. The camp is in a great
position just downstream of a lock and we have really enjoyed watching the
boats going in and out of the lock. There have been large river cruise boats,
barges carrying what looks like coal, house boats and pleasure boats.
Decided to spend two nights
here and after the fog lifted late this morning I did some washing and we gave
Ruakiwi a much need wash using a bucket. At 9 this morning a vehicle came into
camp and he rang a bell….turned out to be the bakery van that comes every
morning. Popped over and got some fresh bread..and a few treats!
Walked through this small
village, along the cobbled streets that wind around the houses all of which are
built so close and there is no such thing as a lawn. Cars inch their way
through the lanes and somehow manage to squeeze into little parking spaces.
Looking forward to catching up with Conny and Gerhart tomorrow at Senheim for a
weekend catch up.
