Friday August 27, Norene’s, Mt Robson, BC
140 Miles
We done a full circuit, returning to stay with Norene at Mt Robson, this time arriving from the west. Ian has had a few issues with his neck, so it is a very opportune time to relax for a few days with Norene in this beautiful place. As we drove in, it felt like coming home, and there had been a light dusting of snow on the mountain overnight.
Thoroughly enjoyed our drive south down the the Yellow Head highway today, driving through wonderful trees including huge cedars. The signs kept warning us of moose and there were many likely looking places but didn’t see any, although spotted a black bear crossing the road in our rear vision mirror.
Stopped at McBride, one of the few towns on the road today. It was such a refreshing change to see a small town showing real pride. Buildings were well painted with really nice gardens. Arrived just in time for the Friday Market and managed to buy a treat…a Menninite lady was selling homemade cinnamon doughnuts, they were so good. Also found a jar of hot pepper jelly. This is made with white wine or cider vingegar, with hot peppers and spices and set with Certo, and is so good on a cracker with cheese.
We had just left town when I saw some guys building a log home, so we turned around and called in. Dave Black and his son Logan were building it on their property and they were more than happy to show us around and explain their building methods. They were using some very old cedars that had been burnt during a fire years ago. This sort of building blends so well into the hills and mountains.
