Friday July 10th – St Cloud MN
Tonight we are parked in the Wolfram’s driveway in St Cloud after a wonderful welcome from Laura and her parents Tim and Sue.
The day started with an hours trip on the 694 Interstate which skirts around Minneapolis. It was after 9, but the roads were so busy, and the traffic was travelling well above the speed limit of 65mph. It took lots of concentration as we worked out what lanes we should be in, as exits seemed to appear on the left and the right. Jilly was in her element directing us through.
We were heading for Roger and the Camping World store, hoping to get Ruakiwi in for a service, but no such luck…they were booked out for weeks! They had 5 bays but this is their busiest time of the year, so will have to find a Ford agency further on in the trip. Had a good walk around the store and picked up a few bits and pieces, they stock everything you could want for camping in an RV…and more!
Had enough of Freeways so set off west to Buffalo. Saw a huge outlet mall and spent some time there checking out the summer sales. Picked up T-shirts and shorts, really good value even with our exchange rate
Had a very leisurely day and arrived at St Cloud late afternoon.
It was so good to catch up with Laura again, and really it was less than 5 months ago that we had seen her in NZ. We all went to an excellent local Mexican restaurant for tea, the food was fantastic, great décor and enjoyed Mexican beer!
Laura and her Dad had worked out a suggested tour for us to see the best of Minnesota, heading north to Duluth on Lake Superior and then following the North Shore of the lake. We really appreciate getting local knowledge, especially from people who enjoy the outdoors and know the sorts of places we would like going to.
Just a wonderful evening.
