Monday October 17, Pézenas

It has certainly been one of those less inspiring days today, it was really windy, very overcast and threatening to rain, although we only got a few spots, or maybe because we are winding down a bit now that we are closer to going home, and Ian’s back was a bit “fragile”. Headed off for a drive down to the coast, had thought we might go into Sete but the roads were very busy and decided against it so continued along the narrow strip of land between the coast and the lagoon area. We couldn’t see the Med from the road and it was so windblown and the sand was blowing that we didn’t stop. Saw what looked to be a good area by the coast just out of Agde, but another disappointment, it was a big holiday carnival area that was all closed down for the season and looked pretty tacky. By this stage we were well and truly over the traffic and the tackiness so headed back to Pézenas!!  We must be showing our age but it was good to walk down the road and found a little restaurant which was still open even though it was 1.30. Enjoyed a really nice meal and ended up chatting with an English couple who have a holiday home in a nearby village, and he and his sons have all played rugby. Ended up chatting outside the restaurant for ages and learnt quite a bit about this area as they have been coming here for almost 20 years.

Put our feet up for awhile then I went walking down to the local Carrefour store for some bread, a good 30 minute walk and blew the cobwebs away. There were so many “brocante” or antique shops along the road selling pretty amazing furniture as well as crockery and glass ware.

Absolute minimal photos today…a lazy one for me!!!

That's okay with me as I like to know it isn't all picture postcard scenes.

Some days are like that, just don't turn out as planned. Nice to chat with the English folk and learn some local history
