Friday October 14, Castres

Looking a bit like Venice tonight.

The weather has been so good since we have been in France apart from one wet morning in Vaisson-La-Romaine, but this morning we woke to drizzly rain which continued on and off all day. Our raincoats were in the car which was parked 5 minutes so when there was a break in the rain we set off to get our coats, and as there were some empty parking spots right outside our door we shifted the car, ready to load tomorrow morning when we head off to Pezenas.

Wandered into town and found a market that was just closing in the town square, although it seemed to be mainly vegetables, meats and fish. The rain had eased and we walked around the town but as per the French custom, most of the shops were shut as it was after 12.30! Also interesting that many of the cafes were also closed on Fridays. Ended up finding a nice spot on the edge of the square and we sat outside under very large umbrellas which kept us dry when the showers passed through. Had a good lunch and enjoyed “people” watching. Noticed that the council were putting up xmas decorations in the street….couldn’t believe it as it is only mid October!!!

And back to the apartment for a relaxing afternoon. This evening the rain had stopped and I popped out with my camera to capture the lights from the river houses, they looked pretty spectacular.

Intrigued by this truck, all set up for markets,
and only one seat for the driver.

Mandarins from Portugal

A rather dismal scene at the market.

Xmas decorations going up already!

These two ladies were enjoying a chat
over a coffee.

Wrought iron reflections on the wet balcony.
